| چکیده | ||
| احکام راجع به علیت- راجع به اینکه چه چیز علت چه چیز می‌شود- آن قدر در زندگی ما متداول است که ما متوجة آن نمی‌شویم. اما چرا یک چیز علت چیزی دیگر می‌شود؟ چه چیزی یک شیء را علت شیء دیگر می‌سازد. ما ابتدا باید میان فهم رابطة علیت و فهم آنچه علیت به هم می‌پیوندد، فرق بگذاریم. این رابطة علیت چیست که علت و معلول را به هم پیوند می‌دهد؟ این سؤال اول است. اما همچنین می‌توانیم بپرسیم علت و معلول باید چه نوع هویاتی باشند تا در این رابطه قرار بگیرند؟ به عبارت دیگر، علل و معلولات چه هستند؟ این پرسش دوم است. عمدة بحث این نوشتار به پرسش اول می‌پردازد و بخش پایانی نیز به پرسش دوم خواهد پرداخت. | ||

| Assertions on causality- i.e. what could be the cause of what? – are so ubiquitous in our everyday life that we pass them by unconsciously. Why does one thing become the cause of another? what makes a thing the cause of another thing? First, we must make a distinction between the concept of causality relation and that of the things to which this relation applies. What is the causality relation that links a cause with an effect? There arises, however, another question. What sort of entities should cause and effect be if they are to qualify as the two sides of this relation? In other words, what are causes and effects? This is the second question. The present article deals mainly with the first question and partly with the second one. | ||
