| دفاع از عقلانیّت باور دینی در طول تاریخ، بسته به نوع رویکردهای فلسفی و معرفتی حاکم بر اندیشه‌ی بشر، رنگهای مختلفی به خود گرفته و انواع گوناگونی پیدا کرده است. بسط و توسعه‌ی برونگرایی در معرفتشناسی معاصر، سبب شده است تا عدّهای از اندیشمندان دینی، که در باب معرفت، دیدگاهی برونگرایانه اتّخاذ کردهاند، نگاهی جدید به باورهای دینی بیندازند و عقلانیّت آن را از نگاهی برونگرایانه به اثبات رسانند. در این نگاه برونگرایانه، نقش استدلال در توجیه باور دینی تضعیف میشود و استدلالمداری حاکم در الهیّات طبیعی و قرینهگرایی کسانی مانند لاک و دکارت انکار میشود. باور دینی در این نگاه میتواند بدون ابتنا بر هر گونه استدلالی، عقلانی و موجّه باشد. به بیان دیگر، باور دینی در زمره‌ی باورهای پایه قرار میگیرد. تجربهگرایی آلستون و ادّعای واقعاً پایه بودن باور دینی از سوی پلنتینگا هر دو ناشی از برونگرایی آن‌ها در مسأله‌ی معرفت است. به طور کلّی میتوان گفت ظهور مکتب معرفتشناسی اصلاحشده در اندیشه‌ی دینی، هم‌زمان با ظهور یا احیاء برونگرایی در معرفتشناسی معاصر بوده است و از آن بسیار مایه میگیرد. | ||

| Over history, defending from rationality of religious belief has had different types, regarding to the kind of ruling philosophical and epistemic approach over human thought. Externalism expression in contemporary epistemology has caused some religious thinkers having externalist view to religious believes in a new way and prove its rationality through externalist perspective. In this externalist perspective, argument's role in justification of religious belief is weakened and argument-oriented ruling over natural theology and Locke and Descartes' evidentialism are refused. In this view, religious belief could be rational and justified without any argument. In other word, religious belief is included in basic believes. Both Alston's empiricism and Plantinga's claim that religious belief is properly basic stems from their externalist view on knowledge problem. Generally speaking, emergence of the school of reformed epistemology in religious thought is concurrent with emergence or revival of externalism in contemporary epistemology and profoundly owes that. | ||
